Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th March 2026 – Outline

Why did Christ warn His disciples against hypocrisy (Luke 12:1-3)? Hypocrisy is equal to deception. Hypocrites live a double-faced life; claiming to be who they are not. Jesus compared it to yeast; a symbol of evil and sin (Exodus 12:15; 1 Corinthians 5:6-8; Galatians 5:9), and condemned it in strong terms (see Matthew 23). How does hypocrisy manifest among Christians today?

Read Luke 12:4-9 again. Why should we fear God rather than men? What are the benefits? The fear of God delivers us from hypocrisy and its snares (Proverbs 29:25). We completely trust in God’s ability to care for and protect us from the evil schemes of men. We become bold to acknowledge and confess Christ openly without the fear of what men would say or do (Luke 12:8-9).

The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Teacher, Counsellor and Comforter. He is the One providing the grace and wisdom for us to live victoriously (John 16:8). If we deny Him, we will lose our source of help and strength (Luke 12:10-12; Hebrews 6:4-8). Notice the warning against blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Why is it unforgiveable to blaspheme the Holy Spirit? How and why do Christians deny Christ today (Romans 12:2)?

And So
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:7). If you are living hypocritically, you need to repent and stop it before you are disgraced.
